Master Gee on Jazz FM

Legendary hip-hop artist, and founding member of the Sugarhill Gang, Master Gee, hosts a two-part programme, produced for radio by Spiritland Productions, celebrating the art of scatting.

From vocal percussion in Indian classical music, to the earliest jazz recordings, hip hop pioneers, and contemporary award-winners, Master Gee looks at the originators, the innovators and those keeping it fresh today.

There’s music from Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter, Lambert, Hedricks & Ross, Freddie Mercury, Bobby McFerrin, Razhel, Suhail Yusuf Khan, Lalah Hathaway, G.Thomas Allen, and more.

Master Gee has his very own scat lesson, from Bob Stoloff, who taught vocal improvisation at Berklee College of Music.

And Beardyman and Zara McFarlane, demonstrate just what can be done with the voice alone, in a brilliant improvised live session.

You can listen to episode one of Scats The Way It Is now and catch episode two at 9pm on Jazz FM UK.
