MAYO’S “BOOKS OF THE YEAR” TAKEOVER
Joe Haddow of Spiritland Productions has snapped up the rights for Simon Mayo’s “Books Of The Year” podcast.
It is believed six other companies were involved in the bidding war, until they got a bit fed up.
The deal, which sees Spiritland take over the production of Mayo’s podcast from Ora et Labora, was made on a Penguin Postcard, in the basement of a trendy coffee shop in central London, for an undisclosed sum of money.
Joe Haddow – Head Of Production for Spiritland – said “I started working with Simon Mayo and Matt Williams 10 years ago – and since then, have never really left them alone. I guess they finally caved.”
Ben Walker, of Ora et Labora, said “Joe’s obsession with Simon and Matt became too much, so, we decided to do the deal. It’s a great deal for us, but, I’m not sure if it’s so good for Simon and Matt.”
The podcast, which showcases the best in new fiction and non-fiction throughout the year, will continue as before, but Haddow – true to his favourite 70s hit by Andrea True Connection – is promising “more more more”
How do you like it? Well, you’ll have to listen to find out…
