Capturing The Wargame Podcast: What if Russia attacked the UK?
When Tortoise Media approached us with their idea for ‘The War Game’, a high-concept podcast series with Sky News, we knew it would be an exciting project to plan and work on. A year in the making, but recorded in just one day, The Wargame simulates how a Russian attack on the UK would play out— inviting real-life former ministers, military chiefs and other experts to figure out how to defend the country.
From our derig gallery installed in their basement meeting rooms, we guaranteed and operated a 6 hour recording across 10 remote cameras, 32 audio sources, 5 streams and a broadcast quality line cut for Sky News. With the brief to stay as discreet as possible, we ensured that all 22 participants were unaware of our presence, so they could concentrate fully on the scenarios they were given.
"Without Spiritland’s expertise and professionalism, we could never have produced The Wargame series. We had only one chance to record and capture everything we needed. It was a complex, multi-room OB. Throughout the process, from inception through to production and beyond, Spiritland provided an unparalleled service which meant we could really focus on the editorial side of the wargame."
